KICK-OFF YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON

Seahawks vs Packers

Today marks the ‘Kick-Off’ of the new NFL season. Excitement is in the air! It’s a brand new season. The Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks have already faced-off against the talented and very hungry Green Bay Packers. What are the expectations for the new season? Will QB Russell Wilson and the Seahawks repeat as Super Bowl Champs? That is the question.

Also, for many students, teachers, and administrators, this week is the beginning of a new school year filled with many new expectations. And pretty soon, the green leaves of summer will give way to the reds and gold of autumn. And, so, like the new NFL and other seasons, new seasons come into our lives, as well. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

How can we prepare ourselves, so that our new seasons will be truly Championship Seasons? What can we expect in our new seasons?  How can we best be successful, seize new opportunities, and share in the excitement that new seasons bring?

First, there is one thing we know, that every new season, definitely, brings – CHANGE! The Seattle Seahawks will be facing totally new offenses and defenses this year. All those new changes will make it much more difficult for them to repeat as champions. The Seahawks will have to make adjustments, and deal with the uncertainties that accompany change. As we enter the new seasons of our lives, we, too, face the uncertainties of change. And uncertainty, the unknown, very often elicits anxiety and/or fear.

However, the Bible reassures us, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” ~ Deuteronomy 31:6. Have faith and trust in God, and He will see you through whatever uncertainties your new season brings. (See 2 Corinthians 5:7.) You don’t have to be stressed out nor anxious as you enter your new season. The LORD your God goes with you!

Secondly, a new season brings new challenges. Last year’s game plan is not going to work, if the Seattle plans to repeat. They’re going to, definitely, need a new game plan to meet the new challenges of the new season. To meet the challenges of our new seasons, we need wisdom – new strategies and game plans. James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” We have to pray, and ask God for the wisdom  we need to meet all our challenges, and He will supply us with the wisdom, the winning strategies and game plans we need to succeed in our new seasons. (See Philippians 4:19.)

Finally, a new season reveals new champions! Will the Seahawks get new Super Bowl rings at the end of this new season? Or will a new champion be crowned? What are the chances of you becoming a champion in your new season? Through your own strength, it may be difficult, and even appear impossible. But the Bible says, “Humble yourselves before the LORD and He will lift you.” ~ James 4:10. “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” ~ Matthew 19:26.

So, as you enter the new season of your life, go in with great expectations. Enter with a champion’s attitude, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” ~ Philippians 4:13. Yes, in your new season, you, most definitely, can be a champion in Christ, if you truly believe. “…In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” ~ Romans 8:3

Have a Fantastic Championship Season!

Until next time, remember, you can do all things through Christ Jesus,

Be Blessed!

“FAITH and DEVOTION DAILY” LAUNCHED

Newspaper

Growing stronger, wiser, and better through faith each and every day! “…Just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17

FAITH and DEVOTION DAILY is out!

We are moving higher in the LORD with this month’s launch of the new online, faith-based publication, FAITH and DEVOTION DAILY!

FAITH and DEVOTION DAILY is dedicated to helping you grow in relationship with God through inspiration, education, and motivation. It employs the incredible leverage of social media, and web 2.0 technologies to “tell the story” and reach people of faith around the world. Designed to help strengthen faith through daily doses of the Word and inspirational stories, it draws on a broad range of faith based media to inspire and grow your relationship with God!

FAITH and DEVOTION DAILY is filled with devotionals, inspiring stories of faith, and faith-filled articles, opinion pieces, blog posts, photos, and videos. It is a useful, daily companion for quiet time, meditation and reflection on the Word. And it sheds new light on current events and developments from a faith perspective!

FAITH and DEVOTION DAILY brings you the latest news and views affecting people of faith, while focusing on examples of a healthy Christian lifestyle. Recent articles included the reaction of people of faith to the school shooting in Newtown, CT, as well as, an appreciation of the real meaning of Christmas!

This month also witnessed the launch of SOCIAL MEDIA and MINISTRY NEWS. Looking for an effective way to provide regular updates to the key topics and concepts presented in my recent book SOCIAL MEDIA and MINISTRY, I hit upon the idea of publishing an online daily newspaper to bring you the latest, most up-to-date information, developments, and opinions in the fields of social media, faith and technology from a wide variety of leading online sources.

SOCIAL MEDIA and MINISTRY NEWS is sort of like SOCIAL MEDIA and MINISTRY LIVE/ Breaking News! LOL! It provides further insights, and additional “bonus” material to those who purchased the book, SOCIAL MEDIA and MINISTRY. I hope you find it informative and helpful.

Finally, a reminder that 2012 is not over yet! You still have time to accomplish and achieve more of your goals and dreams this year. In Matthew 19:26 Jesus said, with man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible! God is not finished with you yet! Continue to pursue you dreams!

What remaining goals for 2012 are you still working on?

Until next time, remember, you can do all things thru Christ Jesus!

Stay Blessed,

Kenneth Lillard

Pinterest and Faith – A New Way to Connect

There’s absolutely no question that Pinterest is 2012’s hottest, new player on the social media scene. It’s everywhere! Pinterest is the wildly popular, visual social network that people are using to share virtual pinboards of their favorite photos, videos, and links.

So, what exactly is Pinterest anyway? Think digital scrapbook. Think a new way to visually share your vision online. Pinterest is a digital bookmarking network designed to connect people through sharing their common interests. What makes Pinterest different, and so interesting, is that it is a visual social network, with emphasis on “visual”, that is easy to use and taps into one of social media’s newest trends – the interest graph.

Here are just a few facts about this breakout, new social network:

  • Unique visitors to Pinterest grew 400% from September to December 2011.
  • Pinterest drives more visitors to third-party websites than Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Launched in 2010, Pinterest already has over 10.4 million members.
  • Pinterest gives faith communities a creative, new way to connect with people and share the Gospel.

How can churches and ministries use Pinterest to help carry out the Great Commission? I’m glad you asked! Here a just a few examples:

  • Pin photos on Pinterest of people in your ministry serving others.
  • Create a digital scrapbook of your church’s daily life.
  • Use strong visuals to talk about Jesus.
  • Highlight events, sermon series, books, video, film, and music.
  • Small groups (youth, singles, women, et al) can create their own boards.
  • Highlight ministry missions.
  • Pinterest boards can be set up around twitter #hashtags inviting people to share images, photos, and blogs posts which can be pinned on Pinterest.
  • Boards can be set up around themes and seasons such as Lent and Easter.
  • Boards can be set up around faith topics and classes.

Pinterest is unique in that it appeals to the creative side of people. Many people are fed by the visual arts, and inspired to deeper engagement with God  by the things of beauty He has created.  Pinterest provides a creative way to showcase your ministry’s personality and aesthetic in a fresh manner. In addition, it is a fantastic way to share visual devotional resources. Pinterest definitely challenges you to think more deeply about visual design when sharing content via this new social networking platform.  We give Pinterest two thumbs up!

Ten Ways Pastors Can Use Facebook More Effectively

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and,  lo, I am with you always even until the end of the world.” Matthew 28:19-20

Using Facebook is a fantastic way to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ! FB is global, viral, and instantaneous! There are over 600,000,000 people registered on Facebook worldwide. And that’s million with an “m”!

Indeed, FB is an easy way to connect and communicate with others, both inside and outside the body of Christ. And it can be done wirelessly, on an iPad or other suitable mobile device!

Here are ten examples of how pastors can use Facebook more effectively to help fulfill the Great Commission of sharing the Gospel within their communities and across the globe:

1. You can use Facebook’s Fan Page as your ministry/church’s website.

2. Pastors can use Facebook to post and receive prayer requests on their cell phones!

3. You can post updates on Facebook about your day and thoughts. Highlight “life moments” that can encourage and uplift others including staff, church members and friends.

4. Pastors can communicate with staff, church members, and others via Facebook as an alternative to email.

5. Stay connected with your church’s youth group(s) through Facebook updates and Fan Pages.

6. Pastors can post RSVP invitations on Facebook for ministry events like revivals or gospel concerts using FB’s Event/Announcement app.

7. You can import your blog feed directly into your Facebook page. This provides additional exposure for your message(s), and hopefully will increase the number of your blog subscribers!

8. Facebook empowers pastors to reach beyond the walls of the church to connect and communicate without geographical limitations.

9. You can use Facebook to gather feedback from church members, staff and others to harvest insights in order to strengthen your ministry.

10. Network with other pastors and church leaders on Facebook to share information and ideas, as well as collaborate on joint ministry projects.

For additional information from me on how pastors and church leaders can more effectively use Facebook, as well as Twitter and YouTube, see Social Media And Ministry, Sharing the Gospel in the Digital Age.

Until next time, remember, you can do all things thru Christ Jesus!

Stay Blessed!

The Joy of Christmas Giving

“…the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” Acts 20:35

Christmas 2010 is rapidly approaching! Internet Christmas radio stations on Windows Media Player and www.Pandora.com are  filling the air with the joyful sounds of the season!

As we prepare to celebrate the Christmas Season, I’m happy to report the spirit of Christmas giving is very much alive and well today, especially at the Rock Church in San Diego, CA.

The Rock Church, well known for its service to the San Diego community, is scheduled to give out 10,000 toys and 60,000 pounds of food to families in need on Saturday, December 11, 2010! Incredible!

“Toys For Joy”, as the annual event is called, celebrates its 14th anniversary this year. It is expected to attract 16,000 children and adults!

More information on the great “Toys For Joy” event is found here

Especially during the Christmas Season, it is well to remember that it is truly “more blessed to give than to receive!” Jesus reminds us of this truth in Acts 20:35.

When we give:

  • We are reminded that we are truly blessed to be in a position to give.
  • Giving promotes the happiness of the giver.
  • God blesses those who give from a pure heart! (See Matt 25:34-40;  Luke 3:11; Romans 12:8; 2 Corinthians 9:7;  James 2:14-16)

Loving to give, God gave us all things (1 Chronicles 29:14; Ephesians 4:7). The greatest gift of all He gave was  the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, The Savior (John 3:16) whose birth we celebrate during this special season!

We don’t have to give out 60,000 pounds of food! The economy has really been rough this year for many. However, just a small gift for someone, especially in need, can make all the difference in the world this Christmas Season!

What gift(s) will you give this Christmas?

Until next time, remember, you can do all things thru Christ Jesus!

Merry Christmas!
